Weedie Braimah Djembe Solo
Weedie Braimah is one of the United States' premier Djembe players. He was born in Ghana and grew up in East St Louis. He grew as a musician and teacher by studying with Mamady Keïta, Famadou Konate, Abdoul Doumbia, and Fadouba Oulare, among many others. He currently lives in New Orleans and tours around the world, performing and teaching. His teaching style incorporates extensive information on the culture and history of West Africa with information on how the music he is teaching is used in that culture. He is a very personable and affirming teacher. He was nominated for his first Grammy in 2022 for his album The Hands of Time.
This solo demonstrates the virtuosity and power of his playing, as well as his joy in playing.
