Our Training Programs

  • For K-12 School Districts & Regions

TDI works with school districts to train groups of teachers and counselors to facilitate Therapeutic Drumming programs in their schools.  TDI provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions for students with a number of needs, including social/emotional learning.

    This program includes:

    • A 12 day training course, approximately one day a month, working on learning to play traditional West African rhythms on Dunun and Djembes.

    • Helping each school acquire up all of the drums & accessories needed to implement a Therapeutic Drumming program.

    • Providing Coaching days of observation and customized supplemental training.

    • Teaching facilitators to build their own Djembes, and to maintain the ones their students use.

    • Continuing education.

    • Access to Master Drummers from West Africa for training and programming.

  • For Community Groups & Organizations

These groups often include people from a broad range of community organizations who are interested in using congregate drumming experiences to support their diverse populations.  These training groups are focused on helping trainees fine-tune their programs to meet their groups’ specific goals and needs. Some participants take  the training just to be able to join such a vibrant and supportive community.
